CHICAGO AREA STUDENTS DISCOVER AMERICA WITH BARRETT MOVING
Driver Steve Godan and students from Andrews Cooke Magnet School in Waukegan, IL
Fourth grade students at Andrew Cooke Magnet School in Waukegan, IL began cross-country odyssey in October when Barrett van operator Steve Godan and General Manager George Follensbee introduced them to the Discover America Program. This is a unique geography and history program offered by United Van Lines. It enables children nationwide to “tour” and study the geography and history of various U.S. cities via Driver Dave.
Godan and Follensbee explained the Discover America Program – which will make stops in 10 cities across the United States this year. New York, Denver and San Francisco are on the list of places that students will learn about through letters from Drive Dave, picture books, postcards and other souvenirs.
On October 17th, Godan and Follensbee presented the fourth graders with a United States map they can use to track Driver Dave’s travels, answered questions about job responsibilities, and gave a tour of Godan’s moving van. In addition to receiving monthly letters, the students will have an opportunity to log on to Driver Dave’s Web page, www.unitedvanlines.com/uvl/driverdave and obtain updates of the routes followed and additional information on U.S. landmarks and attractions.
“At a time when so many children are struggling to learn basic facts about geography and history, United’s Discover America® program is an excellent tool to help teachers present their lessons in a fun and interesting way,” says Follensbee. “Barrett is proud to be involved with a program that focuses on the children and their education.”

Waukesha Delivers the Sweets
Did you know your favorite household mover also delivers America’s favorite cookies?
For the 25th year, Barrett's Milwaukee offices made Girl Scout Cookie Week easy for their local Girl Scout Council. Bob Davis, Milwaukee National Account Salesperson, thought he'd seen it all with deliveries to "cookie moms," but this year the Girl Scout's Cookie Coordinator went to the hospital on emergency maternity leave mid-week.
Not to worry - we got it done, delivering almost two million of the cookies that support Girl Scout activities throughout the year. "Kolina Fenninger, Barrett Customer Service Coordinator, did an outstanding job coordinating everything," comments Davis. "Ken Webb, our dispatcher, and Kolina made it easy for everyone internally and for our Girl Scout customers."
You can tell a good household mover by the cookies it delivers!
